A NEW SOUND IN SAN DIEGO??

ADDIQUIT

-- real name Bethany Whitwer -- is a songwriter and MC from Spring Valley,CA. In 2003, she met beat-maker/producer Machinedrum while studying audio engineering at the Full Sail media-arts school in Florida. Though still unsigned and fairly unknown, her music earned her a personal invite from Chan Marshall to open 2007 dates for Cat Power in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.

She received San Diego Music Award nominations for Best Hip-Hop in 2007 and 2008. Her 2009 debut album features beats and production from several top indie producers.

Her flow wraps itself around in-your-face electro beats like a tease, and with beats by top-Indie producers, the girl unleashes some seriously tight syntax that sounds entirely unscripted. Addiquit's combination of rapid-fire, feisty cadence and airy voice make her an anomaly in the Hip-Hop scene. Her skills have developed enough to earn props in the blogosphere and nominations for San Diego Music Awards for Best Hip-Hop in 2007 and 2008. &&&& More electro than hip-hop, Addiquit is living proof that underground rappers aren’t just a myth...she raps over thick electro beats with all the vigor and finesse of Lil’ Kim or Lauryn Hill. While still unsigned, her music earned her a personal invite from Chan Marshall to open for Cat Power in Los Angeles & San Francisco in 2007, and later, in 2008. Recently, Addiquit started side-project Scarecrow N Criminal. She plans to drop free mixtapes via the name, early 2009. Addiquit will release an official debut album sometime, in 2009. Is that cool, for now?
